only trouble is that it adds a watermark and charges 20$ to get rid of it. Going thru forums, i figured out that VueScan was suggested as a decent workaround.
Heading over to Canon support site, it was clear that no supporting drivers were available for Win7 64-bit or Win8/10. the os detected the new device, but failed to download any relevant drivers via windows update. I decided to try another Win10 laptop (without any optical drive) which had 32-bit os. apparently, the drivers only work on 32-bit Win7, and not on 64-bit. I tried installing it on my Win7 laptop (which still has the optical drive), but it did not work. I had some documents to be scanned and i thought i should give it a try and thus brought it over, along with the installation cd to my place. he had even tried to get the scanner 'repaired', but the service personnel just checked that it does not support anything beyond Win7, and suggested he buy a new scanner. When i asked what happened to the scanner that had served him so well all this time, i came to know that after upgrading to Win8+, it just doesn't work. My dad asked me to help get rid of his Canon LIDE 20 scanner from the last decade as he had classified it as junk.
